What Do People Actually Want To See?

Another topic… I’ve always wanted to do more with this website, but never had the time. I’m determined to do more this year. I’m not sure where I will find the time, but perhaps if I stop posting fifty page rants on the Blood of Vol and the Church of the Silver Flame every time they are mentioned on the internet, I can focus that energy here. With that said, my time is very limited. So the question is what is actually going to be interesting or useful to people. Here’s a few things I’ve thought about; which of these sound worthwhile? Which don’t? Travelogues....

Brainstorming Ways To Keep HDWT Alive

Last year I set out to run games in as many places across the world as possible. It was a wonderful experience, and I’ve met a lot of incredible people. And so far, I’ve only been to a fraction of the places I’ve been invited to. The problem, quite simply, is financial. My hosts have been extremely generous with their hospitality, which has kept lodging down. But that still leaves travel, and over time that adds up. Beyond that, I was overly optimistic about the amount of work I could get down while on the journey. So with little to no positive income, negative income, however...

GenCon Eberron Game: The New Plan

I’m going to be at GenCon Indy, but I’m not a guest as such – which means I’m not actually scheduled to run any games (actually, I do have one special event, but more on that in a future post). I hate to let a con go by without running a game, who do I run for? It’s not like there’s a shortage of people who’d like to play. I considered the auction idea, but for various reasons I’m not doing it. So instead, my plan is to do a variation of my traditional Eberron Trivia Contest. Starting in July, each week I’ll post a question here on the website....

A Question: Auction A GenCon Game?

I’m going to GenCon Indianapolis on my own dime this year, as opposed to being a guest. The life of a traveling DM/writer is not a lucrative one, and so I’m considering ways to cover my costs. I have an idea… but I’m not sure yet as to whether it’s a GOOD idea. So I’m interested in your opinion. My idea is this: auction a private Eberron game on eBay. This would be auctioned as a single event, not seat by seat – so it would be something for a gaming group to go in on together. The game would be run on Thursday or Sunday afternoon, so as to minimize clashing with major con events. The...

Memorial Day Conventions

I’m heading west for Memorial Day. I’ll be attending Baycon and KublaCon this weekend, and I hope to see some of you there! Baycon (Baycon.org) is at the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara, California. I’m on a few panels and have a QA scheduled: Friday 4 PM: Series Fiction – It’s More than a job, it’s an obsession Saturday 2 PM: Engineering Griffons Saturday 4 PM: How to be a better DM Monday 2 PM: Eberron Q&A Session KublaCon (www.kublacon.com) is at the Hyatt Regency in Burlingame, California. I’m scheduled for the following events: Sunday 10 AM – Gloom...

Who Am I, and What’s This All About?

While I’ve had to slow down the HDWT tour, I still intend to keep doing it. So I wanted to address two points: Who exactly is this Keith guy anyway, and why am I doing this? Since I was a child, I’ve been interested in storytelling. Professionally, this has taken me in a number of different directions. I’ve designed MMORPGs, written novels, worked on RPGs and had the good fortune to see my own world released, and explored storytelling in the card game Gloom. On the side, I’ve run interactive literature games and written a single issue of a comic. Each has its own unique...

So Where Have I Been?

Some of you may be wondering what happened to me and HDWT. I’m still planning to share some of the stories in days to come – along with some new gaming material and other things. It may be a few months yet, but look out for a new, improved Bossy The Cow in 2010. Have Dice, Will Travel has been an amazing experience. I can’t thank all of my past hosts enough, and there’s so many places I’d still like to visit. However, work, life, and love have all conspired to slow down my pace. I’d still like to meet everyone who’s offered hospitality – it’s...

Son of Khyber in stores now!

Hey everyone! I’ve been very busy this last month, hence the lack of posts. I will be resuming my travels when time allows, but I’m going to be out of circulation for a little while to come. I’ll post more when time permits. However, something that IS in circulation is The Son of Khyber, book two in the THorn of Breland series. Available now on Amazon and hopefully, a store near you. Check it out, and I’ll write more when time allows.

Have Dice, Will Date

It’s been a while since my last update. I’ve been dealing with various life issues, but the main thing is that i am hard at work on the third novel in the Thorn of Breland series. My final deadline is in two weeks, and I’m not going to be posting much or traveling again until it is done. Once it’s done, there are many things I want to do, including going back and telling some of the stories from my travels over the past year. On other developments… I’m single. I have some friends who run a website that’s designed to help geeks find geeks, and hey, I admit...

Dust Storms in Sydney

In theory I return from Australia today… but there’s dust storms in the city that may play havoc with my flight.  Overall, the trip has been a mixed experience. My goal in traveling is to meet interesting people and see inspiring places, and I certainly accomplished the first part of that. My hosts in both Sydney and Brisbane were wonderful, and I met other interesting people at GenCon Oz. But due to my novel deadlines, I really didn’t get out to see much of the surrounding area. It’s my fault; it’s simply been harder to write while traveling than I’d hoped,...
