February is over, and the time has come to choose the winners in my branch of the Crossing The Streams contest. It turned out to be far more difficult than I’d expected, and in the end I had to resort to a roll-off among my favorite answers. Let’s look at each of the two contests in turn.
WHAT WILL BE THE BIGGEST SURPRISE ABOUT THE NEXT EDITION OF DUNGEONS & DRAGONS?
Long-time readers will know that when I ask for big surprises, I rarely mean it seriously. I refer you to our previous post on the Biggest Surprise In Fourth Edition (“Traditional elves replaced by Keebler elves. Drizzt a renegade fudge elf who wields twin graham crackers.”). So I was expecting wisecracks, and I got a few of them. However, i also received a number of posts that reflected sincere hopes about the next edition, frustrations with previous editions, or simply thoughts about what the poster enjoyed about roleplaying overall. There were many interesting answers, and I want to thank everyone who took the time to respond. But I don’t have enough books for everyone, so a single winner had to be chosen, and that winner is Phil Hobson.
WHAT SPEC-FIC SERIES WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE MADE INTO A MOVIE OR TV SERIES?
This also went all over the map. There were a number of Eberron fans and quite a few people who wanted to see a Forgotten Realms series. A significant number were interested in live-action a Star Wars series. But quite a few people were calling for series I haven’t read, which gives me some things to look forward to. Guy Gavriel Kay’s Tigana received multiple votes, along with Kevin Hearne’s Iron Druid Chronicles. A surprising number of people asked that The Dresden Files be given a second chance. Once again, there was no easy way to decide who should get the prize, so I rolled the dice and the winner is Keith West, who would like to see Larry Niven’s Ringworld brought to the big or small screen. As a long -time fan of the Known Space books, I’d certainly love to see it.
Thanks to everyone who took part in the contest. Thanks especially to those of you who put so much time and effort into your 5th Edition answers. While I don’t work for WotC and have no direct connection to D&D Next, I am a game designer and will certainly keep your thoughts in mind on my upcoming projects.
