A Few Things About Eberron Novels…

The following email came my way recently…

I have just finished the Son of Khyber. It was great book. I cant wait for the next one to come out. I know better than to ask about stuff, but I would like to make some requests. I would like to know more about Steel’s background.

I’d love to write more about Steel’s background; it’s something I’d hoped to work into The Fading Dream, but it didn’t end up fitting the story. I’d definitely like to do more with Thorn. For that matter, I’d like to resolve some of the remaining cliffhangers from The Dreaming Dark. The catch is that it’s not in my hands. Currently, I’m not signed to write any Eberron novels in the immediate future. I’m not a WotC employee, and as a result I don’t know what plans WotC has for the setting.

So if you want to see more Eberron fiction, you need to let WotC know. One obvious way to do this is to pick up the existing novels. Sales are going to be the main driving force; if people buy Eberron novels, they’d be stupid not to make more. The Fading Dream has just hit shelves, and there’s still a few more novels lined up (Next up is Lady Ruin, I believe). Beyond that, The Dreaming Dark and other series that are now out of print are available on Kindle, and electronic purchases will encourage them to do more in that format.

Beyond that: WotC has just posted a survey about novel reading habits (it’s in the upper right corner of the main D&D page). If you’ve read Eberron novels or want to read more, take a moment to fill this out. And if you want to see something specific – whether it’s Thorn, the Dreaming Dark, Abraxis Wren, or anything else – use that comment section at the very end. I certainly appreciate your taking the time. I know a lot of authors (myself included) who are dying to write more for Eberron; but it’s all in the hands of WotC. Let them know what you think!

FWIW. Wizards currently have a Novels survey on their site. I just filled it our and requested more Eberron content.

By the by, I had no idea there was an Eberron landing pad on the WotC site until I just stumbled across it by accident.

I completed the survey and asked for more Eberron novels. Hope Wizards is listening!

Any chance you might come over to Paizo and write some Pathfinder books? Most of your Characters already sound like Pathfinders to me.

And even if WotC was to release new Eberron novels, I have no interest in 4e books, I just don’t get 4th edition. I tried reading a Forgotten Realms 4e novel hoping that maybe seeing the new ruleset from the other side might help, but nothing in that book felt like D&D to me, and it never felt like the realms to me.

I will distribute this survey to all my game friends. We have been readying and playing Eberron since its introduction.
I’m upset that such a battle is going on to produce more content…but we are here for the fight!

@Dark Psion – Anything’s possible. I think Paizo’s a great company, and I’ve enjoyed working with them in the past (I did a few entries in the Pathfinder Campaign Guide and wrote Blood of Dragonscar). At the moment, I have a lot of irons in the fire, but I might go knocking on their door if things open up.
