PAX Prime

Are you going to PAX Prime is September? I am, and if you’re going to be there, here’s my schedule of events.

The Basics of Good Game Design (Friday, 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM, Wolfman Theatre)

Veteran designers James Ernest and Keith Baker have designed nearly every type of game imaginable. Board games? Pen and paper roleplaying? MMORPGs? Transparent gothic storytelling card games? Button based fighting games? They’ve done it. Join them for a discussion of the underlying principles of good game design, and a few laughs as well.

The Evolution of RPGs  (Saturday, 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Wolfman Theatre)

Some say that Dungeons & Dragons has become more like an online computer game. Given that MMOs evolved from tabletop RPGs, what does this actually mean? What are the greatest strengths of each medium, and what can be done to build a better game? When you mix chocolate and peanut butter, does it taste great or is it just awful? Join a panel of experts with experience across a wide field of game design.

Panelists include: Richard Garfield, John Tynes, Chris Pramas, Keith Baker

In addition to these two panels, there will be an informal Q&A either 1 PM or 2 PM Saturday – I’ll update this with the location as soon as I have it, and you’ll also be able to find out by asking at the Tabletop Gaming HQ at PAX. This is the place to bring questions about Gloom, Eberron, Thorn, or anything else! Finally, I will be running an Eberron game Sunday at Noon. Seats will be filled via raffle, with the money from the raffle going to charity. Tickets will be available at Tabletop HQ (room 213).

I hope to see you there! My next events are in October -  Conquest: Oregon in Portland and RinCon in Arizona. More details as things develop!
