GenCon Contest: Final Question

We have two seats left, but with just over a week until GenCon, I don’t want to push the time. So we’re going to have a lightning round… one question, two winners, chosen next Monday. Once again, the game will be at Sunday at 11 AM; if you feel like answering but aren’t in the running for a seat, please clearly state this with your answer. Most of our previous questions have been turned on storytelling skill. This time, we want a more general question. I want to know: What’s your favorite thing about Eberron? Good luck!

Mythic Party!

Now that I’m back from Finland, I wanted to give this event a proper posting.Saturday night at GenCon I’m teaming up with AvatarArt and other sponsors to run a game for charity. We’ve been planning this for some time now, and it should be a fantastic event… complete with delicious food and a pile of SWAG! donated by the sponsors to be divided up among the players. The event is Fourth Edition D&D and NOT the same thing that I’ll be running on Sunday. Much as I’m proud of my Sunday game, we’ve got some pretty big plans for the Mythic Party, and it should...

GenCon Contest Week Three: Airship Results

This week was the most difficult judging yet. Most of the entries are posted on the original thread. Some entries made us laugh, most were clever, and John Lach’s stunned with sheer size. But we had to choose one, and in the end, the victor was Gilo. Unknown to the crew and passengers an Ashbound druid released a swarm of Soarwood-eating ants under the airship’s hull. The ants work slowly borrowing through the ship’s wood multiplying in numbers. Just one day away from Stormreach, the pilot notices that he can not maintain the airship altitude and that the airship is slowly descending...

Remember that charity game?

Last month I talked about auctioning a game, and a comment that came up was ‘That would be cool if it was for charity.” Well, I know GenCon is only a few weeks away, but I’m working with AvatarArt to run a charity event on Saturday evening at GenCon. This is a completely different adventure from the Eberron event I’ll be running Sunday, and I’m looking forward to it – I think it’s going to be very entertaining for everyone involved. Beyond that, food and swag will be provided. So check it out, and I hope to see you there! http://www.mythicparty.com/

GenCon Contest Week Three: What Will Go Wrong?

In case you’re new here, this is a contest for a seat in an Eberron game I’m running at GenCon this year. Time has now been confirms as 11:00 AM on Sunday, August 8th. If you can’t make this, you can still enter for fun, but make sure to tell me that you aren’t in the running for the seat! As we all know, when adventurers get on an airship, it is invariably doomed. It’s like Doctor Who – when adventurers show up, you know something bad is going to happen. So you and your friends have just climbed aboard an airship, planning a relaxing trip to Stormreach. Our question this week is simple: WHAT...

Week Two Results: A Gnome, a Warforged, and a Shifter…

This week proved to be even harder to judge than the first; there were a multitude of excellent answers, ranging from short and glib to convoluted and clever. Some people presented parodies of movie scenes or classic jokes; others turned it into adventure scenarios. After long deliberations, the HDWT panel finally selected the following answer, from Andy Klosky (http://platinumwarlock.blogspot.com): “A Zil Gnome, a Warforged, and a Shifter walk into a bar…” The gnome walks up to the bartender, orders a drink, and tells the bartender, “It seems that someone’s filed my books out of order.”...

Eberron Round-Up: 7/18/2010

I spend a lot of time – perhaps too much – posting on Eberron message boards across the internet. It’s been suggested that I put links to those posts here on HDWT, so people can see want I’m ranting about this week. So without further ado… Are the daelkyr bound in Khyber, or just unable to come to the surface? http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75882/25401933/Conflicts_between_Depiction_of_Daelkyr_imprisonment_in_Novels_and_Sourcebooks.?sdb=1&pg=last#457819177 Let’s Talk About Overlords of The Age of Demons http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75882/23063277/Overlords (This...

Week Two: A Gnome, a Warforged, and a Shifter…

For our second question, we turn to the classics. A Zil Gnome, a Warforged, and a Shifter walk into a bar… … What happens next?

Week One Results: The Owl’s Victory

Many people had excellent ideas on how the Owl might win the Race of Eight Winds. A number of people leaned on the Boromar Clan for assistance. Many came up with ways to turn the contestants against one another. One suggested glamerweave sashes imbued with subliminal mind control magic. It was a tough choice, but in the end our panel of judges went with the following plan, submitted by Jessica Chemise. How will the Owl win the Race of Eight Winds? By ensuring the outcome is decided ahead of time, of course. First, you need to identify the goal, stated and implied. That is, it is obvious that...

Eberron GenCon Contest: Week One

I’m going to be at GenCon this year. I want to run an Eberron game – but I’m guessing that there’s more than six people who want to play. As a result, I will be filling five of those six seats over the next few weeks with a contest. Each week I’ll ask a question. You can post your answer as a comment, or send it to me directly by email (keith -at- bossythecow.com); either way, I will post the winning answer next week. None of these questions will have one right answer, and you can play it straight or go for humor; I’m trusting that I’ll know the right answer...
